TREATMENT OF AUDIOVESTIBULAR PATHOLOGIES

Audiovestibular pathologies are very common issues and are among the leading causes for visits to general practitioners and emergency rooms. They can cause both auditory disturbances, such as tinnitus and hearing loss, and vestibular disturbances, such as vertigo and balance problems.
When one of the labyrinths (the anatomical structures in the ear responsible for balance) or the vestibular nerves is damaged, vertigo occurs, and we are no longer able to maintain balance.
To treat these pathologies, it is necessary to address the underlying causes or, if that is not possible, the symptoms through pharmacological therapies and vestibular rehabilitation.

HEARING LOSS SURGERY

Professor Neri is also an expert in hearing loss surgery. Otosurgical procedures vary depending on the type of problem needed to be addressed: tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy, ossicular chain reconstruction and canaloplasty.
All these procedures, performed under local or general anaesthesia, aim to keep an infection under control or remove its causes.
Additionally, it is possible to restore hearing in almost all patients through the implantation of bone prostheses and cochlear implants.
